The joy this hat brought to her, to feel feminine again after losing her hair, touched my heart and after that a love of making hats was born in me.
I've always been crafty, taught to sew by my Mum. I can still remember the smell of the small, local fabric shop in middle England, all those years ago, where we were regular customers. It was better than visiting the sweet shop! I had and still have an avid interest for anything artsy, crafty and an addiction to fabrics! One look at a certain fabric and the creative juices start flowing....
I was born, raised and educated in the U.K. I studied as a fashion student, which lead beautifully into Millinery, the art of hat making.
I am now an Ex Pat, Mum of two energetic, beautiful children. By the time I left England I was living near the town of Brighton in East Sussex, also known as "London by the sea". An Artists Mecca! Just check out "the Lanes" for a taste of what I mean. I am now living in Boston, Massachusetts. A truly magnificent city which inspires me to cater to the seasons. From Sun protection in the summer and year round, to toasty ears in the winter.
The beauty of online selling is that I can cater for all seasons, all year round. From the Northern to the Southern Hemisphere's. I love shipping my carefully crafted items all the way to places like Australia and New Zealand, where hats are pretty much obligatory!
I opened an Etsy shop back in 2009 as a perfect opportunity to have a "storefront" for all the creations realised and also those buzzing around in my head. It also gave me the opportunity and my children the benefit, of a stay at home parent. I am positively enjoying the beauty of being able to do both.
Since then my business has grown and I am proud to have opened www.BostonMillinery.com
A perfect shoppers nirvana for all the "Hataholics" out there!
Thank you for taking the time to peruse my creations. Whether its a hat to keep your head warm and stylish after hair loss or a hat to compliment your dress on your wedding day; making you happy, makes me happy. I absolutely love the design process and the culmination of the finished item whether it be a custom made hat or a piece of jewelry. My work is so fulfilling, especially when a customer tells me how much they love their purchase! I hope that this love and joy translate into the pieces I bring to each and every customer. Everything I create is made with love and everything is limited edition or even one of a kind.
Everything is designed with a vintage feel in mind. Inspired by the 1920's and 30's Cloche hats and headwear, like those worn by the ever so chic Flappers of the time. Every item is made with quality materials which I personally source. Handmade by myself in the USA in a smoke free, pet friendly studio with care and attention to detail.
No head too big or too small. Experience shows that one size does not fit all.
Chic and exclusive for the Woman who knows the finishing touch is everything!
Let's spread the word about Independent Artists and bring custom handmade crafts back to life. Enough of the mass produced, let's embrace individuality and buy handmade in the USA.
